Our kitchen garden at CVF

Our kitchen garden has a southern slope & is sheltered.
It is about 3 weeks earlier than our big garden.
It supplies us with delightful salads throughout the season.
Nothing better than home grown lettuce.

Quick Trip to Cape Breton

We had a quick trip to see Ross & Tena
Great trip but I needed a "horse fix"
Here is Beverly with her Morgan which she rides & drives
She has a McLaughlin sleigh and a few nice buggies.

Let's talk about my DNA Results

I recently had my y-DNA done by FamilyTree DNA in Texas
See: http://www.familytreedna.com/default.aspx
My Haplogroup is R1a
Then my Ria Haplotype is # 24 which means I am Viking, from there
My ancestors settled in Yorkshire at Skirpenbeck before 1066
and then on to the Brantford area in Ontario, Canada in the 1820's

Firewood enough for more than a winter

We had a violent storm in our area last night.
Lots of trees down including this one.
Oh well, lots of wood for the stove this winter.

Dr. Tiffany visits the Shaver Reunion

We took our medical road show to the Shaver Reunion in Ancaster today.
Dr Tiffany practiced in Ancaster from 1798 to 1835.
It was a hot day but lots on fun.

We're in the honey business again

Dorothy picked up her "Nuc" boxes last night after dark.
A "nuc" is a queen, four frames of honey and lots of workers.
She'll move the frames and the queen into the hive tomorrow.
There are lots of flowers at the farm for the bees.

A horse is only as good as his feet

Carrie Doyle has taken care of the feet on our horses for over 6 years.
She does a great job, and their feet are great.
Here she is doing Bonnie's feet in the stocks.
Thanks Carrie for all your help!!!!!!!!

Arnold Rife, a legend in his time

Although Arnold is about to be 90, he has helped many folks with their draft horse needs.
For us, he found Barney, the big winter sleigh and helped us choose Jack.
He also built our big hitch wagon along with the help of his son David.
Arnold is a very special person from the draft horse world.
