For Boomer
It is a matter of trust
the man said
between the horse and you.
He has sad eyes
the horse
knowing eyes
He’s seen it all
the winnings and the loss
and at the end they said
he’s no use
get rid of him.
So he’s here
and isn’t bitter
though he knows
and sees into the human heart.
The children groom him
and so do I.
He gives us winnings
and no loss.
He is beautiful.
